Luko PaljetakLuko Paljetak was born in Dubrovnik in 1943. He studied at the Faculty of Philosophy in Zadar and received his PhD from the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb. He is a full memeber of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts (HAZU) and a correspondence member of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SAZU). He is a member of many other associations of Croatian and foreign writers and translators. He translates from Italian, English, Russian, French and Slovenian. Among other writers, he has translated Chaucer, Prešeran, Shakespeare, Byron, M. Lowry, D. Thomas, O. Wilde, and J. Joyce. He is the author of numerous works, collections of poetry, children books, scholary studies, articles, essays and anthologies.
His publications: Nečastivi iz ruže (Satan from the Rose), Miševi i mačke naglavačke (Mice and Cats Topsy-turvy), Ljubičaste kiše (Purple Rains), Tri farse (Three Farces), Jantarna kocka (Amber Cube), Na rubu tijela (On the Edge of the Body), Slike s izložbe (Images from the Exhibition), Pjesni na dubrovačku (Poems in the Dubrovnik Tongue), Hrvatske teme (Croatian Themes), Skroviti vrt (Hidden Garden), Crna kronika (Black Chronicle), Grenlandski leptiri (Greenland Butterflies), Nutarnji rub (Studije i ogledi o hrvatskoj književnosti i književnicima) (Interior Edge/Studies and Reviews of Croatian Literature and Writers), Vanjski rub (Studije i ogledi o stranim književnostima i književnicima) (Outer Edge/Studies and Reviews of Foreign Literatures and Writers) and many others. Since 1968 he has been a member of the Croatian Writers Society; that same year he became an employee of Matica hrvatska. He has received a great number of literary awards, medals and tributes. He lives and works in Dubrovnik.
